Heriot-Watt University is committed to lowering its carbon emissions.
The University’s Carbon Management Plan sets out the strong actions the university is taking on climate change, including reducing emissions at its UK campuses by at least 15% between 2014/15 and 2019/20.
The University is a signatory to the Universities and Colleges Climate Commitment for Scotland, which pledges action to reduce emissions to support national emission reduction targets. The University has also pledged support to the City of Edinburgh’s ‘Sustainable Energy Action Plan’, which has a city-wide 42% emission reduction target for 2020.
Heriot-Watt’s emission footprint has been re-baselined based on 2014/15 data in support of the Public Bodies Climate Change Duties reporting process, which applies to major players in the Scottish public sector and results in publicly available climate change reports which can be accessed from the Sustainable Scotland Networks website.
