Get a reusable coffee cup

Heriot-Watt KeepCups are on sale on campus!

Here at Heriot-Watt we love our coffee as much as anyone, but we’re not so keen on the curse of the disposable cup.

The UK as a whole gets through around 3 billion disposable coffee cups every year, and the huge majority end up in landfill. Our own Edinburgh campus is currently responsible for about 200,000 of those annually.

Despite claims to the contrary, disposable cups can be extremely hard to recycle. And the waste of resources involved in making a single-use cup – not to mention the carbon footprint – is shocking, particularly when you multiply it by 3 billion.

There’s one very easy way of reducing your impact, though: get your own Heriot-Watt KeepCup! Every time you use it, it’s one fewer disposable cup going to landfill – if you think about how many cups you drink a year, you’ll really see the difference it can make.

KeepCups are barista standard dishwasher-safe reusable cups, and they hold a standard 12oz coffee or tea. You can use them anywhere on campus except the Business School – and every time you do, Heriot-Watt will donate 5p to the University Tree and Wildlife Fund.

The KeepCups cost £10 each, and come in a variety of colour combinations. They’re available to buy at the Main Reception.
